![]() I believe it's recent because I just started parking that car at that spot recently. ![]() When I searched my address, I saw my street with my car parked in front. If Google could give Local guides in Africa those google cars to map major cities, tourist attractions or small towns maybe 3D street views will come to the thing is that it works just the way street view worked on Google Earth. The next step, Street views Africa and the rest of the developing world were left behind. Since the crowd sourcing thing came around it has been a tremendous advance in mapping on Google. We drove around Nigeria with Garmin Nuvis and Hand Held GPS marking out our tracks and recording way points as well as road hierarchy, speed limits other information such as one way, disused roads, tunnels, bridges etc. Prior to 2010 Google bought data from a data vendor I was subcontracting for. If costs will be an issue we the local guides can do the driving all we require are the google vehicles and internet access to upload the information. Local Guides going for the submit in SF should try convincing Google that there is some benefit to having street views at least in Major Urban areas of Nigeria and state capitals. In some instances Streets have been renamed but you may likely see the old street name on a house. Places are named after some land mark and the residents know how to get around, most roads dont have names especially smaller settlements. In most towns not the state capital or major Administrative headquarters, street name signs with house numbers are affixed the rest urban areas have street names from the colonial times to maybe the early 1990s that were named but you may likely not see the street name signs. ![]() Except for Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, Enugu, Owerri, Port Harcourt, Uyo, Calabar, and a few other state capitals where the streets in core of the city are properly named. Street Names in Nigeria is not properly organized in most of Nigeria. Google has not sent down its Google Cars to be driven all around Nigeria or any African country yet. Not truely street view where one can pan as if he/she is driving down the street. Its Street views of some specific points of interest like Sheraton Hotels, some Computer Sales offices etc. ![]()
